of people who moved from senator baucus' office to k street. at least 2 aides since 2001 have lobbied on tax issues during the obama administration more than any other current member of purpose. the reason is twofold. one is that senator baucus is the chair of the finance committee, arguably the most powerful committee in the senate. the finance committee, quote, helps dictate how the government raises almost all of its money and spends nearly half of it. the other quality that makes max baucus such a ripe target for lobbying and people with an in to him so valuable is he is not an idealogue. say what you want he is in the center kind of. there is a tool political scientists use to score where lawmakers land on the left/right spectrum. with senators ranked in the 112 itth congress with number one being most liberal baucus landed at 45. only a handful of democrats ranked more conservative. here is max baucus occupying the lonelily and quickly evaporating center of american politics we all pine for, the center we all lament the vanishing of. the problem we all say in washington is we have thes

report 7 communities are accused of using money to lobby higher taxes. fox business network diane macedo has more. >> a new report from a nonprofit group cause of action says at least 7 communities were a part of the a $373 million program to educate americans are obesity and tobacco. they violate the laws for hire taxes. the findings are part of a 19 month investigation on the center for disease control prevention communities putting prevention to work program. the report says xhients also appear to have violated cdc guidelines. congressional hearings in 2011 and follow up letters to help services address potential violations in a south carolina community where the state used program money to lobby for a city clean indoor air ordinance. the call to action says the violation was worse than disclosed. the group adds there are at least 7 other potential violations in florida georgia, california south carolina and they used tax payer money to lobby someone for smoking in workplace. and a statewide tobacco tax increase. they are asking for more investigation saying it's important to do anoth

the irs garnishes their tax refund for not buying insurance. the law is known as the affordable care act. and the mandate is the law. few know that the individual mandate rules will mean that a financial penalty will be levied for those who don't participate, don't buy or have health insurance provided by their employers. how will the irs do that? by docking their tax refunds, as much as a couple thousand a year for a family of four. and that, the inspector general says, presents a problem. >> many americans do not realize the extent that the internal revenue service will be involved in the implementation of the affordable care act. >> now, the irs would not comment, in fact, referred us to their website for those criticisms. in fact, the irs is already getting ready to play enforcer for the new law. just last week it asked congress for $440 million to help it enforce this new health care system. now coming up tonight at 11:00 p.m. on nbc bay area we'll break down the entire law in detail, and tell you just what you face if you don't pay the health insurance. all tonight at 11:00. we'll
